There are two different types of toilets used commonly in Japan today. First is the squat toilet, and second is the American/ Western style toilet. Today, Japan has some of the most sophisticated and unique toilet designs in the world.

A modern toilet in Japan, called a Washlet, is called in English a Super Toilet. One of their toilet, called the Toto is listed in Guinness World Records as the world's most sophisticated toilet.
